Gianforte Unconcerned for Montanans Safety, Votes Versus Re-Opening Critical Government Functions– The Montana Post

You may have heard about one of the most dangerous groups of 2018 that killed Americans all over the country, indiscriminately and without regard for women or children. This group was so dangerous that the government called for an immediate halt to all of this group, all over the country.

That’s right, Greg Gianforte is unconcerned for real dangers that are trucked into Montana every day as long as this political theater government shutdown continues. This sinister and dangerous actor, your food. Uninspected food is a huge danger to your safety as foodborne illnesses kill 3,000 Americans a year.

Greg Gianforte voted against “Making appropriations for Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies programs for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2019, and for other purposes.” Roll Call Vote

According to Axios:

The FDA inspects 80% of the U.S. food supply, meaning the food most Americans eat could potentially be less safe and cause an increase in foodborne illnesses due to the government shutdown.

The government shutdown is obviously more important than Montanan’s safety to Greg Gianforte.

According to reporting by Think Progress:

One of the consequences of the partial shutdown is that the Food and Drug Administration has stopped doing most of its food safety inspections — just weeks after a major E. coli outbreak hit the nation’s romaine lettuce supply.

The FDA’s domestic food inspection has effectively ceased due to the Trump shutdown. Roughly 7,000 of the agency’s 17,000 employees are currently furloughed and others are working without pay.

According to the American Medical Association:

Pregnant women, very young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are at especially high risk from foodborne illnesses.

In November of 2018 the FDA called for a total and complete shutdown of romaine lettuce until our country’s representative can figure out what is going on as a romaine lettuce borne e-coli outbreak threatened every corner of America.

It seems that Greg Gianforte would rather grandstand in 2019 about issues the former majority republican congress could have addressed. I sure hope he’s enjoying all the press about that crucial issue to Montana voters, a wall 2,000 miles away that couldn’t stop anyone from doing anything. In this age of meaningless soundbites, the Republican party has perfected the art of saying nothing of value and doing less for their constituents.

If you appreciate an independent voice holding Montana politicians accountable and informing voters, and you can throw a few dollars a month our way, we would certainly appreciate it.
