North County Transit District (NCTD) has actually finished the federally-mandated Favorable Train Control (PTC) security system execution.
NCTD is a public transport firm in the United States state of California.
The firm has actually implemented the PTC safety system for 58.5 miles of track within the San Diego County part of the Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo Rail Corridor (LOSSAN). Train professional Herzog was connected with this PTC execution project.
PTC is an integrated command, control and interactions system designed to avoid train-to-train collisions and derailments.
The system is capable of alerting engineers about potential hazards ahead, along with supply notices about excessive speed and unauthorised entries.
NCTD Board of Directors chair Rebecca Jones said: “To finally be able to state that this system is completely carried out is so fulfilling. The boosted safety that it brings to our clients and train crews is unrivaled.”
In September last year, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) conditionally authorized NCTD’s PTC Safety Strategy and its PTC system.
The conditional approval enabled NCTD to begin interoperability screening with train operators Metrolink, Amtrak, BNSF and Pacific Sun Railroad and validate integration with its system.
The screening and commencement of the Interoperable Profits Service Operation (RSO) with all operators was finished by 27 December last year. Consequently, NCTD notified the FRA on the complete application.
All trains are running on the NCTD San Diego subdivision with PTC protection.
According to the Rail Security Improvement Act of 2008, all train tracks that bring travelers or toxic-by-inhalation products are required to set up PTC systems on tracks.
